Despite being known as the “Committee of Death,” sometimes the liberals in the Senate Education and Health Committee are good for a chuckle or two.
Yesterday, after Delegate Matt Lohr (R-26, Harrisonburg) had introduced House Bill 896, a bill dealing with physical education, it was noted that it was similar to a Senate bill the committee had – surprise! – killed previously. So a motion was made to do so again and, as if to prolong the torture, just before the vote, committee member and Majority Leader Dick Saslaw (D-35, Springfield) asked out loud as a point of information:
“How did this bill get here anyway?”
To which Senator Janet Howell (D-32, Reston) deadpanned to a room of laughter with our Quote Of The Day:
“Because we have two chambers.”
I know, I know. It doesn’t exactly instill confidence in the majority leader, but at least he’s the source of some good laughs.
