Two high ranking national Democrats, former Democrat National Committee Chairman Don Folwer and U.S. Representative John Spratt (D-S.C.), were caught on camera on board their airplane returning from the Democrat National Convention in Denver laughing at Hurricane Gustav and the impending peril in which in puts New Orleans — because they believe it will help Democrats politically!
In the video, Fowler is caught laughing at the prospect of Gustav hitting New Orleans at the start of the Republican National Convention in Minneapolis this coming week — and therefore God must be with the Democrats.
Fowler says in the tape, “Everything is cool,” as both men laugh it up. Little did the two know that a RedState.com contributor was sitting behind them and caught it all on tape (read the blog entry and see the video here). RedState.com has just e-mailed this story within the last 15 minutes and was posted on its Web site at around 1:17 p.m.
We knew liberals were getting religion, but this goes a bit beyond the pale.

Why do you call it the Democrat National Convention?

Thanks for your question. Someone asked this on a thread back in the winter, I believe, and I tried to e-mail the person directly, but it got bounced back to me. I don’t know if it was you or not, but here goes with the explanation:
It’s a simple matter of grammar. That’s all. “Democratic” is not a noun. I don’t know of any Democratics. I know some Democrats. So, you can’t have an organization, or a convention of an organization, of adjectives or adverbs. You can only have an organization of people. A Democrat is a person. Countries may be democratic and so can organizations (notice the small d). People may be democratic. But as a certain member of a certain party, one is not a Democratic. One may be a Democrat. Sorry. Your party doesn’t know it’s grammar. ; – )

[...] As we mentioned Saturday, former Democrat National Committee Chairman Don Fowler, who headed the DNC from 1995-96, was caught on video laughing at the prospect of Hurricane Gustav slamming into New Orleans because it would, in his opinion, distract from the Republican National Convention. He said it meant God was with the Democrats. [...]
Hmmm…interesting…so you’re going for a grammar revolution here? In one of Bush’s state of the union speeches, he referred to the Democratic Party as the “Democrat Party”…It’s a widely known insult in politics to refer to the Democratic Party as the Democrat Party, as I’m sure you know. Almost an intentional strategy by some Republicans to irk Democrats…
But, since you’re so pro-grammar, why not just go with Republic National Convention or, better yet, Republicanistic National Convention and then everyone is happy.
Sorry, Jennifer. Republican is a noun. No revolution, just standard proper grammar. That doesn’t qualify as a revolution. Be as paranoid as you want, but I didn’t know using correct grammar was an insult to Democrats. Is their problem with English? If the Dems are so sensitive about a name, how would a Dem president deal with dictators like Castro, Chavez, Putin and the Iranian mullahs who call America the most vile names? Are you saying they can’t handle that? Don’t make a big deal over this.
Okay, that’s rad. Just didn’t know the Family Foundation was in the grammar correction/promotion business. But that’s cool, maybe it will, um…catch on soon or something. I thought you did “life”, “traditional values” and such…do I hear a retreat to revise the mission statement…oh yay!
P.S. I am totally going to you next time I have a grammar question. I always thought Mr. Westin (h.s. English teacher) was a little behind the 8 ball). Cool?
Anytime, Jennifer. I’ll gladly try to help you with writing advice. But don’t worry about the FF changing. We’re still everything we say we are. Everyone should know how to write well. That is totally non sequitur issue, as I’m sure you know. BTW, we’re not correcting anyone, just doing what we believe is correct; and if you listen and read enough, you will see that many people besides us refer to the DNC the correct way as well.
This is a good demonstration of something I have noticed over the last few years. The left can’t use facts and truth to defend its beliefs so they have to use sarcasm and humor instead.
I was watching an interview with Al Franken and the interviewer asked him a question that would have showed inconsistency in his stance. Instead of answering in a straightforward manner, Franken said something funny, the sycophantic audience laughed, and the interviewer moved on to the next question.
