I See Pink Everywhere

By

October 28, 2011

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month.  It’s also when the world turns pink.  I couldn’t believe when I turned on the tv the other day and saw a pro-football team donning the hot pink color.  But I am not surprised really.  When you go to the store, anything from tomato soup and cupcakes to jewelry and makeup can be the color pink.  Pretty much every organization has found some way to incorporate that hot pink color on their items.

And rightly so.  Breast cancer is killing women.

Breast cancer has increased 6% in the last couple of years.  While diagnosis and treatment has led to more treatable cases, the causes are still debatable, and a cure remains beyond our reach.

That’s why it is so interesting that our country’s leading breast cancer research group is funding our country’s leading abortion provider.  Why, you might ask?

Unfortunately, it’s dependent on who you ask.

The Susan G. Komen Foundation would say that Planned Parenthood helps to provide breast screenings and mammograms.  And since mammograms lead to early detection of breast cancer, Planned Parenthood is considered a partner in early detection.  Too bad that in the entire year of 2008, Planned Parenthood did not conduct one single mammogram, yet received $731,000 of the money you, me and the rest of America are raising by going pink.

But if you ask doctors that have participated in over 40 years of research, there exists a link between abortion and breast cancer.  Surely other medical professionals have acknowledged this link?  But like most politically-controversial topics, the culture doesn’t want to admit there might be a link, and will stop at nothing to keep the truth from rearing its ugly head.  And this time, the culture includes the National Cancer Institute, the American Cancer Society, and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

Before a full term pregnancy, the breast tissue is made up of Type 1, 2 & 3 lobules.  Type 1 comprises 70% of the tissue.  Type 1 is also where 85% of all cancer starts.  When a woman becomes pregnant, there is a rapid increase in hormones, stimulating growth of Type 1.  When a pregnancy is allowed to proceed to full term, the breast tissue fully develops, creating a cancer-resistant Type 4.  But if the pregnancy is interrupted, then not only are the lobules left immature, but there are now more of them, raising the risk of cancerous cell tissue.  No one debates this information.

Now whether you want to believe that a link exists between abortion and breast cancer or not, these facts are certain.  The God-ordained, God-designed process of giving birth to a child is a very healthy and protective choice for a woman’s body.  Interrupting that process can cause problems.  Interrupting that process over and over again can cause many problems.  And not disclosing that fact is not going to help anyone make an informed choice.

The Komen Foundation is tasked with saving women’s lives.  Yet they deny any link between abortion and breast cancer.  And they are pouring money into a billion dollar organization that routinely performs a procedure that increases the likelihood of what they are trying to fight.

Find out for yourself.  Determine if those who are making judgments for the rest of us are doing it out of safety for women and their health, or because they are beholden to the almighty dollar.

And then you might just think twice before purchasing something pink.
