Bullying Women

We’ve all heard about the secular left’s media contrived ‘war on women,’ a lie that most women are starting to see through as evidenced by the rapidly closing ‘gender gap’ seen in recent presidential polling.  What you probably haven’t heard about, at least from the liberal’s feminist establishment, is anything about the actual attacks taking place on women simply because of their beliefs.

Two such examples of this are being generally ignored by the media.  One in Maryland, where homosexual marriage radicals forced the publication of the names of people who signed petitions supporting placing a marriage amendment on the ballot so they could bully and intimidate the signers.  In recent days, Dr. Angela McCaskill was forced out of her job at Gallaudet University, a place she called home for 23 years, simply for exercising her right as an American citizen and signing the petition.  Since being fired, she has also been the target of threats and intimidation by the oh-so tolerant homosexual marriage movement.

In Iowa, Teresa Wagner, who had multiple offers to teach law at other universities, chose to return to her alma mater, the University of Iowa, where she was working as a part time associate director of legal writing.  With excellent reviews from her students and colleagues, she applied for a full-time teaching position, but was rejected in favor of someone not simply less qualified, but someone who “had never practiced law, had no legal publications, and had no prior successful teaching experience.”  The reason Ms. Wagner was rejected – while working for the pro-family, pro-life Family Research Council, she worked on behalf of the unborn – an unforgivable crime in the eyes of the secular left that dominate the academic world in our nation.  Wagner is suing the university on the basis of discrimination.

The message is simple: the left is all about women, as long as those women are pro-same-sex marriage, pro-abortion-on-demand, pro-taxpayer funding of contraception and abortion inducing drugs and anti-Christian.  Any others need not apply.

There was a day when an otherwise completely qualified woman being fired from her job or denied a job simply for political activity would have sent the feminist movement into absolute hysteria – and rightfully so.  Not anymore.  Now, it’s justified if that political involvement is contrary to the secular left’s totalitarianism.

So when you hear about the so-called ‘war on women,’ remember that it’s people like Dr. McCaskill and Teresa Wagner who are the real victims, not college women who want you to foot the bill for their birth control through ObamaCare.  It’s women who have lost their jobs or been intimidated because of their beliefs.  That should have all of us outraged.

Wagner’s previous job functions don’t put her in a protected class. If an employer doesn’t like what she did in a previous job, or thinks it adversely impacts the employer’s reputation or core principles through its association with her, that employer can rightfully terminate her employment. She will lose her frivolous lawsuit and should. The best she can hope for is a settlement. There are no laws that prevent discrimination based on previous job duties or job performance.

If Gallaudet feels that McCaskill’s actions, through her association with the school, damage the school’s reputation or otherwise conflict with its principles, the school can fire her. She does not have a right to a job with the institution.

Victoria, you preach freedom all the time but you obviously do not know what it is or think it doesn’t apply to employers. These women’s exercise of free speech is a guaranted constitutional right, but the constitution does not guarantee free speech without consequences. This whole column is absurd.

Thank you Victoria, for shedding light on these incidents!

This whole blog is ridiculous. Imagine me, a little ol’ white woman from MS that transplanted to VA, being all pro-choice and seeing through your ridiculousness.

Seriously, sometimes I wonder if you really believe what you’re saying, or if you just pander to small minded, selfish people that obviously don’t think they’re any of the above, simply because it’s good for business. After all, they give you money.

Your rhetoric? It’s why many are turning away from Christianity. But you don’t care, do you? To you it’s all about those that thrive on your rhetoric. You profit at their expense. And along the way, you profit on the backs of women that came before you. Shame on you. You don’t care about women anymore than those that you chastise. You care about control.

You aren’t an example of Christ. You aren’t a model Christian. You are far from it. If you put half of your time into helping, really helping others, and spent less money and time on rhetoric and judgement, think of all you could accomplish! If you thought for a second that abortion was murder, wouldn’t you try to prevent abortion at all levels? Wouldn’t you want to live a life so beautiful and devoted to helping others that all would want to follow in your footsteps? Wouldn’t you truly reach out to those disadvantaged Virginians, instead of telling them what they’re doing wrong? Life is not black and white. It’s complicated and imperfect, just as we are. But if we truly are Christians, we acknowledge that, and we give and help and give and help in any way we can. Where is your compassion? What it is about you that makes me want to be a better person? What is it about you that makes me want to be a better Christian?

If I thought your heart was pure I’d expect an answer, but I don’t. You have an agenda. And that agenda doesn’t involve Christ. Your agenda uses Christ, and that just makes me sad. If you truly knew Christ or wanted to know Christ, you would use your power for good. You would help those that are here, and in doing so, you would see that abortion rate you’re so concerned about go down. But you don’t care about that. Just like you use Christ and Christianity for your own selfish gain, you prey on the emotions of others.

    I will pray for you.

    To Juli,

It would seem appropriate for you to direct your last paragraph to yourself. You have invoked the name of Christ or Christianity six times in that paragraph alone and yet you have passed literal judgement on Ms. Cobb’s faith. That is clearly in the realm of God’s authority alone and you are not God. The Scriptures are clear regarding God’s standards by which we He will judge us. Abortion is murder. For each abortion, the most innocent form of human life is extinguished. These little ones are “the least of these”. God created the universe, created life and created and defined what marriage is. We did not. To say that we can simply redefine what God has ordained is to say that we are God. And that is blasphemy. In anger you state “I will pray for you.” Those words, in context, ring hollow and self-righteous. Dr. McCaskill did nothing wrong. Ms. Wagner was doing exactly what you are demanding that the author do. So what is your actual issue? You ask the author where her compassion is yet you express none of your own. Finally, assuming you are employed, what if your employer saw your vitriolic sentiment here and deemed association with you as detrimental to the company image and fired you? The premise of the article is sound. And God is worthy of all honor and praise.
