Should you or shouldn’t you? Is it legal? What’s a pastor to do?

At this time of year, many pastors are conflicted over what they are allowed to do politically. Forces from the far left like Americans United for Separation of Church and State mislead and intimidate pastors into thinking that any mention of politics or issues from the pulpit is illegal and a threat to their tax status.

Consequently, some church leaders mistakenly avoid informing their church congregations on issues and candidates. The void of truth has an incredibly negative affect on elections.

But the truth is that pastors can take a strong stand on issues and can inform their congregations on where candidates stand. Voter guides, voter registration drives, sermons on issues, and member citizen action groups are not only legal but they are key to reversing the downward spiral we see in our culture.

Alliance Defense Fund is a pro-family law organization that fights for our religious liberty rights. A key ally in our fight, they are working to inform pastors about their rights to speak on issues of the day.

At our recent Watchmen on the Wall pastors conference in Williamsburg, ADF senior counsel Jordan Lorence gave a great message on this topic. Many church leaders, and citizens, don’t know the truth! We need to make sure they are informed.
