In findings that are likely to surprise only tone deaf Republican elected officials and some in the mainstream media, a new Gallop poll indicates that Republican voters are growing more concerned over the state of moral values in the nation. In just two years, the percent of registered Republicans who said the moral condition of America is poor has risen by 15 points. Today 51 percent of the GOP is frustrated by the nations cultural climate compared to 36 percent in 2006. The poll found relatively no change in attitude toward moral values among Democrat and Independent voters.
In other words, Republican voters are becoming more concerned about traditional values--not less. As such, Republican voters are more likely to seek out candidates who they believe share their concerns. According to Tony Perkins of The Family Research Council, The GOPs silence on marriage, particularly at this critical juncture in California, has been deafening.
Overall, an incredible 81 percent of Americans, Republican, Democrat and Independents, believe that the nations moral state is getting worse. According to Gallop, since 2002, all three partisan groups have grown more pessimistic about the moral direction of the nation.
The message to Republican elected officials is clear avoid talking about values issues at your own peril. The people who voted you into office are deeply concerned about these issues. Dont expect them to be energized to work for Republican candidates who refuse to even mention the issues that they care about.
