Information Alert: Planned Parenthood rips pregnancy centers

Victoria Cobb, President
Friday, July 17, 2008

Pro-lifers are often accused of not caring for women facing crisis pregnancy, only concerning themselves with the unborn child. What most people do not know is that there are more crisis pregnancy centers (CPCs), or pregnancy resource centers, in the United States than there are abortion clinics. Often owned and operated by Christians, these centers offer medical assistance, financial, emotional and spiritual support to women in difficult circumstances.

As you can imagine, militant pro-abortion groups like Planned Parenthood see these centers as a threat to their profit. They have gone so far as to urge states to shut these centers down!

Now, they are attacking a proposal by President Bush that provides federal funds for pregnancy resource centers. And their language betrays their visceral hatred for pro-life efforts.

Here is what a recent Planned Parenthood email alert says:

“Right now, anti-choice groups run so-called "crisis pregnancy centers" in communities all around the country — often a block or two away from Planned Parenthood affiliate health centers. These facilities look like health centers, but in reality are run by anti-choice zealots who deliver only the reproductive health care options that fit their agenda. No birth control, no abortion — and no choice for women and families who need it.

”If this rule takes effect, they're likely to receive a massive influx of our tax dollars to expand their deceptive operations and to attract hundreds of thousands of women who think they'll be getting medical care but instead will receive a large dose of anti-choice ideology.”

You read that right – anti-choice zealots, deceptive operations, anti-choice ideology.

Of course, Planned Parenthood clinics aren’t stocked with anti-life zealots, they would never deceive a woman or teenage girl into having an abortion, and certainly they aren’t pushing their pro-abortion ideology on anyone! And speaking of providing “choice,” Planned Parenthood clinics have a ratio of 138 abortions for every adoption referral! Clearly, Planned Parenthood is far more concerned with encouraging abortion and making a profit than they are with the health and well-being of women or about providing real choice.

The contempt they show for the thousands of CPCs and their caring workers across the nation that are providing quality medical information and real help for women is disgusting, but simply shows them for what they are.

Black Pastors Protest
Recently, dozens of African American pastors and leaders blasted Planned Parenthood and federal officials who continue to funnel taxpayer dollars to the nation’s largest pro-abortion group.

According to the Washington Times, the group called abortions “womb lynchings” and “black genocide,” while marching on both the Republican and Democrat National Committee Headquarters in Washington, DC. They also blasted Congress and state officials for continuing to prop up Planned Parenthood with over $300 million in taxpayer dollars. In addition, they called on Presidential candidates Barack Obama and John McCain to ban abortion in the nation.

Officials for the Republican and Democrat committees refused comment, according to the news story.

As we expand our network of pastors and church leaders through Pastors For Family Values, and in particular begin new relationships with black pastors in the Commonwealth, we are bringing the issue of Planned Parenthood to their attention – and they are appalled! This new outreach is energizing pastors like none other in Family Foundation history.

We are also in the process of doing research on Planned Parenthood and hope to release a new paper on the organization this fall. Be watching for its release.

Federal Planned Parenthood Subsidy Killed
A few weeks ago we told you about a provision in an Iraq War Funding bill that would have subsidized Planned Parenthood’s purchase of the so-called “morning after pill” from the abortion drug’s producer, Barr Labs. The subsidy would have allowed Planned Parenthood to buy the drug at a discount, furthering their ability to get it into the hands of our daughters.

While the provision passed the U.S. Senate (both Senators from Virginia, Warner and Webb, voted in favor of the provision), House Republicans were able to strip the language from the final bill. According to Family Research Council, “Thanks to the efforts of Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) and Rep. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.), the legislation--worth $161.8 billion--heads back to the Senate without a provision that would have given groups like Planned Parenthood a discount on contraception and drugs like Plan B that can act as abortifacients.”

It is likely we haven’t seen the last of this battle. Planned Parenthood plans to dump tens of millions on dollars into federal Congressional races this fall, and they expect those Congressmen they purchase to tow the line.
