“What is truth?”

The chilling words of the man who turned over Jesus Christ to His innocent death still echo today. In a culture that denies the existence of truth, many in our churches ask the same question. Too many Christians live as if truth doesn’t exist, and the consequences have been cataclysmic.

Many, simply don’t know the answer to the question. That is why we are thrilled to join with Grove Avenue Baptist Church in Richmond to invite you to an evening with Dr. Del Tackett on Thursday, September 13 at 7:00 p.m. We hope wherever you live in Virginia you will be able to attend.

Dr. Tackett is best known as the author, architect and teacher for Focus on the Family’s The Truth Project, a nationwide initiative designed to bring the Christian worldview — and a renewed belief in absolute truth — to the Body of Christ. Thousands of Virginians have participated in Truth Project small group studies. His presentation, “Truth or Consequences: A Personal and National Decision,” is sure to be motivational, educational, and encouraging. While our nation faces a pivotal election, it is also in the throes of cultural upheaval, the consequences of a rejection of absolute truth.

Dr. Tackett has challenged the thoughts of millions of church going Americans with the question, “Do you really believe that what you believe is really real?” If you’ve been part of a Truth Project small group, you know just how dynamic and inspiring Dr. Tackett is. If not, you are in for a treat. There is no question that Dr. Tackett will challenge you in how you think, how you act, and how you understand God’s truths.

Tickets for this special evening are only $5.00. Click here or on the image to register.

Dr. Tackett also will address our Pastors For Family Values Pastors Summit during the day on September 13. Please make sure your pastor and church leaders are aware of that event that is uniquely designed for clergy. Please forward this blog post link to your church’s clergy and they can get more information about the summit here.

As someone who has both experienced and taught The Truth Project, I can’t tell you how enthusiastic I am that we have partnered with Grove Avenue Baptist Church to bring Dr. Tackett to Virginia, and how pleased we are to offer you this special opportunity. I look forward to seeing you there at what will be a very special evening.

While we battle here at the General Assembly to ensure that our commonwealth’s public policy reflects the eternal values our forefathers enshrined in the constitution, a Richmond church will host a conference to remind folks of exactly that history. This Saturday, February 13, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., you have the opportunity to attend the In God We Trust Conference at Grove Avenue Baptist Church.

The conference’s speakers include:

» David Barton, Founder and President of Wallbuilders

» Richard Land, President of the Southern Baptist’s Convention’s Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission

» Steven McDowell, co-founder of the Providence Foundation and President of its Biblical Worldview University

» Craig Parshall, the Senior Vice President and General Counsel for National Religious Broadcasters

Rarely are all of these great leaders in one place and this conference is not simply to remind you of the Biblical worldview of our Founding Fathers, but also to address the issues facing the church today. To help with this goal, we invite attendees to learn more about The Family Foundation and how to put their worldview to work for their family and their faith. Join us Saturday by purchasing your ticket, then stop by our table and say hello.

The Family Foundation of Virginia’s 2009 Voter Guides, non-partisan bulletin inserts that compare the positions of candidates on important issues such as life, marriage, parental rights and religious liberty, now are available. These Guides do not endorse or oppose any candidate or political party and are legal for distribution in churches.

We were busy all summer encouraging pastors to engage in the civic process. Many have committed to distributing our Voter Guides in their churches. However, Virginia is a very large state and we have areas that have not yet been reached. We need your help in getting our Voter Guides into every church that is concerned about the direction in which our state and nation are heading. Please ask your pastor if your church will take The Family Foundation Voter Guides.

Each year, people contact several pastors and ask them to take the guides. This year, we are offering a small prize for your participation: Win a framed Virginia Capitol photo by submitting the largest number of churches with which you coordinated and delivered Family Foundation Voter Guides before midnight, November 3. Voter guide distribution at targeted events also will be considered.

Plus, we have another incentive: Start by entering just one church you know you can help with Voter Guides and you will be entered into the drawing to receive an autographed copy of our Gala speaker and former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee’s latest book. Click here to enter.

On Saturday, October 17 (unless otherwise noted), we will have distribution sites across Virginia to pick up the Voter Guides. See the list below for the one closest to you. If there are none in your area, please volunteer to set up a distribution point for two hours that Saturday. To help in any way with this effort, e-mail john@familyfoundation.org or call 1-804-343-0010. Whether you want to take Voter Guides to your church, set up a distribution point in your area or be the contact person for your city or county, we need your help.
