Gov’t to Sue You Over Babysitter Choice
Parents could be sued for "sex discrimination" if they hire a woman over a man to take care of their young children as a babysitter or nanny in the home without them being there.
That's according to HB 1864, sponsored by Delegate Marcia Price (D – Newport News), which provides that anyone who hires just one person as a nanny, babysitter, tutor, in-home nurse, etc., qualifies as an “employer” and is subjected to nondiscrimination laws under the Virginia Human Rights Act. Tomorrow, January 29, the full House of Delegates will vote on this misguided and dangerous bill.
HB 1864 creates a new category of employee called a “domestic worker,” who is paid for the “performance of services of a household nature performed in or about a private home,” which would include: home companions, babysitters (other than family members, friends, or neighbors), a nanny to care for one’s children, tutors, in-home nurses, caretakers, home health aides, personal care aides, etc.
Under this bill, anyone who hires just one person, even if it’s part-time (a few hours a week), to babysit their child or provide in-home tutoring, would be treated as an employer and open them up to civil lawsuits under the Human Rights Act from the Attorney General and/or disgruntled applicants.
This bill would also make it unlawful for:
Parents to hire a tutor, babysitter, or nanny for their children in the home based upon whether that individual shared the same religious faith, since that would be “religious discrimination.”
A disabled or elderly woman from seeking a woman over a man to help take care of her, including helping her dress or bathe.
An elderly person from seeking an in-home caregiver or companion who shares their same religious faith.
Now the left wants to invade your home and tell you who and for what reasons you can hire someone regarding some of the most sensitive personal matters within their own home, such as caring for your children.
