Who We Are

The Family Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, non-partisan, faith-based organization. We believe there is no square inch in all the universe over which God has not claimed “Mine,” and that includes the arenas of civil government and public policy where we spend much of our time. We advocate for policies based on Biblical principles that enable families to flourish at the state and local level. We are uniquely positioned at the center of a national, state, and local coalition, which includes being associated with Focus on the Family.

The Family Foundation helped support me and gave me the tools I needed to understand what I was fighting and have the confidence I needed to do it. … We are Virginia families; we are the Family Foundation!

OUR VISION

A Commonwealth of strong families guided by faith, protected by a principled government.

OUR MISSION

The Family Foundation preserves and promotes the family in Virginia as God’s foundation upon which all free and thriving societies are built.

We will not stop until we have a Commonwealth:

  • Where Virginians are free to live out their faith in the public square and the marketplace.

  • Where every child conceived is recognized as a gift to his or her parents and society.

  • Where marriage, as the lifelong union of a man and a woman, is honored by all and defined by commitment, not emotion.

  • Where parents are supported by their neighbors, their school administrators, and their government to rear their children well.

  • Where government defers to the family, the church, and the private sector whenever possible for the provision of its citizens and steps in efficiently only where constitutionally permissible.

CORE PRINCIPLES

  1. Human life, from fertilization until natural death, is sacred, and the right to life is fundamental to all other rights.

  2. Marriage, as a lifelong union between one man and one woman, is an institution of God and a foundation for civil society.

  3. Gender, beautifully expressed as either male or female according to God’s immutable design, is an important biological and social reality that must be respected by all.

  4. Parents are ultimately responsible for the care and well-being of their children and should therefore be free from intrusive government involvement.

  5. The right of conscience and the right to practice faith according to personal convictions are sacred and should not be denied or infringed.

  6. The role and jurisdiction of government is clearly prescribed by our Constitution and consequently should be restrained from excessive involvement in the lives of citizens.

  7. Human exploitation, in its various forms, is wrong, and governments have a legitimate and important role in curbing these abuses.

WHAT WE DO

  • Take our shared values to the state legislature and advocate for those values.

  • Hold elected officials accountable through recording public hearings, Legislative Report Cards, Voter Guides, grassroots activism, and more.

  • Engage, organize, and empower like-minded Virginians to impact culture and public policy, one church and one community at a time.

  • Inspire pastors to preach on the whole counsel of the Word and speak truth to power.

  • Encourage the conservative vote though Voter Registration and mobilization of pro-family voters.

  • Give voice in the media to what hundreds of thousands of Virginians believe.

  • Train individuals to be thoughtful, biblical worldview champions in their families, schools, neighborhoods, and at the Capitol.

  • Pray for those in authority and for our culture.

STRATEGIES

  • Inspire Virginians, pastors, and legislators to engage in meaningful conversations and productive actions that advance biblical principles in the public square.

  • Incorporate the unique, God-given passions of individuals and organizations into the work, thereby increasing the number of laborers.

  • Initiate carefully-chosen political and cultural battles that prompt necessary change in these arenas.
