Intern Spotlight: Mark Fizer!

This summer, we are excited to have five interns working with us in policy, law, grassroots, and intercessory prayer. Since their start date on June 1st, they have already contributed valuable work that advances the mission of The Family Foundation. In addition to their normal responsibilities, they also participate in our weekly EQUIP Worldview Program for high school seniors and college-age students. Today, we’d like you to meet Mark!

Mark is truly the glue that holds the intern room together. As a gifted handyman, this is meant quite literally—he recently fixed a clogged sink—but his calm and steady presence has also gone a long way in uniting the interns this summer. Last but certainly not least, we are so excited for you to finally meet our legal intern Mark!

Mark went to Crown College and studied Pastoral Ministries and Biblical Studies but ended up using his teaching skills primarily as a high school math teacher for fourteen years at Victory Baptist Academy. While there, he had his students abide by 24 classroom rules, all of which he considered not just for class but “rules for life.” He also coached middle school and varsity volleyball where he continued to pour into his students and prepare them for life beyond the classroom.

As a teacher, he gained valuable insight on different educational policy issues and felt called to address these bad policies in the courtroom. He is now attending Liberty University School of Law and hopes to make a difference by fighting for conservative values—particularly choice in education.

Mark is a West-Virginian man and truly the embodiment of “Country Roads” by John Denver. He enjoys to hike, camp, and ski and would consider either his four-day hike around Clingmans Dome in North Carolina or Mt. Yale in Colorado to be his most memorable outdoor adventures. Mark is a skilled woodworker (ask him for a picture of a fancy bookshelf he recently made) and loves to watch curling during the Winter Olympics.

Mark has been a valuable member of the intern team, from driving us around in his truck for Cook-Out runs to settling heated disputes on China and predestination (along with his actual legal work, we suppose) and his humble servant’s heart has blessed everyone in the office. His favorite verse is one he clearly lives by, which is Proverbs 4:26—“Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established.”
