Intern Spotlight: Scott Oakley

This summer, we are excited to have eight interns working with us in policy, law, grassroots, intercessory prayer, media, IT and election campaigns. Since their start date on June 1st, they have already contributed valuable work that advances the mission of The Family Foundation. In addition to their normal responsibilities, they also participate in our weekly EQUIP Worldview Academy for high school seniors and college-age students.

For the duration of our internship program, we will release a bio of each intern, written by one of their fellow interns, so you can get to know The Family Foundation Intern Class of 2021. Today's bio was written by Grassroots intern Nicole Dentel.

Our next intern to be introduced is none other than our legal intern, Scott Oakley!

Unlike the previously mentioned intern, Scott is drastically taller than the rest of the interns (and staff) here at the Family Foundation, coming in at 6 foot 7 inches! In fact, he used his height to his advantage by playing basketball throughout his life and eventually into college at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. In fact, Scott played with or against 5 eventual NBA basketball players throughout his playing career! (His old teammate, Bruno Fernando, is currently on the Atlanta Hawks, who are making a run through the NBA playoffs right now.) However, when it comes to the old, small doors and archways in our historic building, his height may not be so helpful.

However, there is much more to Scott than just his height or incredible basketball skills. You can count on Scott to say an insightful comment on all the crazy political things happening in the world or be a welcoming presence to those who ring the doorbell. Scott’s welcoming presence also went all the way to El Salvador when he spent a year on a mission trip with his family! Scott plans on continuing his travels in the future, but in the meantime, you can find Scott reading up on the news of the day, watching TV or movies, playing videogames, going to electronic dance music (EDM) shows, or DJing, which will definitely come in handy at the Family Foundation’s staff lake day.

Scott comes from one of the scariest and weirdest places in the world where alligators run amok and wild men throw said alligators through Wendy’s Drive-Thru windows… Florida. He grew up in Orlando and now resides in Daytona Beach, where he did his undergraduate and got his B.A. in Global Conflict Studies, with minors in Homeland Security and Business. Currently enrolled in Liberty University’s School of Law as a rising 2L, Scott enjoys all types of law, especially constitutional law. His strong passion for justice and standing up for what’s right helped him decide that it would be best to equip himself with the best tools he could to influence the culture and politics of our country in the best way possible. That is probably why Scott wants to get elected to Congress one day!

As evidenced through his hard work and dedication to make the office (and the world) a better and more welcoming place, Scott makes a wonderful addition to The Family Foundation family! He makes a huge impact on the many different cases that TFF’s Founding Freedoms Law Center receives and is very passionate about life issues such as mandatory vaccination requirements being imposed on college students and the transgender policies being pushed in schools. Scott truly wishes to bring the country back together and believes that the issues that The Family Foundation is fighting for are exactly the issues that need to be resolved in our favor for some healing to happen.

Scott’s favorite Bible verse is Matthew 22:37-39, “And He said to him, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’” In these two rules, we can find everything about how to live a moral and virtuous life.
