Protect Parental Rights and Protect Girls Sports
Tomorrow (February 6), a House Education subcommittee on public education will hear several bills in the morning and in the afternoon that protect parental rights, ensure parents are informed if their child is experimenting in gender confusion while at school, and protect the safety and privacy of young female athletes.
Here’s a list of key bills that will be heard which we are asking you to urge your senators on this committee to SUPPORT:
HB 670 (R-Freitas) “Sage’s Law” will 1) Require schools to inform parents if their child is identifying as another gender at school, 2) Prohibit school counselors from encouraging children to hide gender-related information from parents, and 3) Clarify that parents will not be deemed “abusive” simply for affirming their child’s biological sex. HB 1120 (R-Oates) and HB 1229 (R-Higgins) requires all K-12 school and college sports teams, and any private schools who would play them, to be designated based on biological sex and only allows females to play on female teams. The bill also provides for civil penalties for both students and schools who have been harmed due to violations of the bill.
HB 757 (R-Walker) requires the Board of Education to adopt model policies requiring that any instructional material used in any public elementary or secondary school in the Commonwealth be available for inspection during normal business hours by the parents of students enrolled in the relevant public school, regardless of the copyright status of any such material.
HB 1260 (R-Higgins) establishes several enumerated rights for the parents of each public elementary or secondary school student in the Commonwealth, including the right to review any books, curricula, or instructional materials being taught or made available to their child, and the right to be notified of any situation that directly affects their child's safety at school.
