Gov. Needs Your Voice!

During a “Parents Matter” rally last week, Governor Youngkin strongly criticized Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) for their policies that allow students to choose their own pronouns without parental permission; allow students unrestricted access to the bathroom and locker room different than their biological sex; permit biological males to compete on female sports teams; and direct counselors, teachers, or other administrators to hide a student’s “gender transition” from their parents.

Governor Younkin made it clear that Fairfax is seeking to undermine the authority of parents who, under state law, have a fundamental right to direct the health, education, and well-being of their child without government interference.

During an interview following his speech, Youngkin explained that "progressive liberals [are] trying to push parents out of their children's lives” and “push parents out of any decision that’s material in their child’s life.”  In addition to violating parental rights and jeopardizing the bodily privacy and safety of young girls, these policies cause even greater damage by creating a wedge between the parents and their children.

However, while the Governor reiterated the need to respect parental rights, the reality is the Fairfax policies and others like them are the direct result of harmful administrative policies – Model Policies for the Treatment of Transgender Students – created under the Northam administration that have yet to be repealed and replaced.  Many school boards across Virginia bravely stood up for parents’ rights and chose not to adopt these radical guidelines, and now they need the Governor to have these harmful policies rewritten.
