The Good Things 2020 Caused
It's tempting to dwell on all the bad that happened in 2020, but that would risk missing the many great things God has already done this year in Virginia, and how He used The Family Foundation to help bring it about. We want you to be encouraged by just these few examples of bad things that were used to accomplish incredible - and unexpected - good!
BAD turned GOOD
1) During the 2020 regular legislative session, a new Democrat majority repealed decades of pro-family and pro-life laws, while passing some of the most radical laws in the nation that infringe on fundamental liberties. But as a result, we launched our new Founding Freedoms Law Center to pose a direct challenge in court to many of these unconstitutional laws and the harmful government actions that accompany them for individuals who continue to live consistently with their faith and conscience.
2) The Governor and many local governments have repeatedly shut down schools, preventing in-person instruction for children and causing great hardship on many parents. But as a result, tens of thousands of Virginia families have been prompted (or forced) to find alternative educational options that are more consistent with their values, including homeschooling, learning "pods", and private faith-based schools. And now, even more families are taking advantage of the school choice scholarship tax credit program we helped put in place in Virginia!
3) COVID restrictions and precautions prevented many of our students and guest lecturers from gathering in person for our EQUIP Summer Worldview Academy. But as a result, we expanded our EQUIP Worldview program to now offer it remotely, so that high school and college students can join our live interactive training from anywhere, and we can reach even more young people to guide them in a biblical worldview.
4) The General Assembly waged an unprecedented assault on religious freedom for individuals, churches, religious schools, and non-profit ministries through new laws and new state attorney positions to target them. But as a result, we have facilitated and helped activate a growing coalition of churches and religious schools like we've never seen, who are engaging with the culture and elected leaders at an all new level.
5) The Governor responded to COVID by unilaterally shutting down many businesses, ordering people to stay at home, and to work remotely if possible. But as a result, families all across the state were able to get much needed time at home together that they otherwise would not have gotten. Spouses got to see each other more, parents spent much-needed time with their children, and countless families were strengthened in the process.
"You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives." Genesis 50:20
Gratefully,
Victoria E. Cobb, President
